During the summer, many flock to the Dairy Twists, Friendly’s and other Ice Cream venues for that perfect treat after a day at the beach, day of shopping, or the calling from within for that needed treat in our day. But what about the one’s who are intolerant or allergic to the milk products or casein within it? What about the ones who have gluten issues, who need to be sure that the toppings are also gluten free?
When one first discovers their need to adjust their diets to adapt to what other wise might cause digestive, depression, anxiety, etc., type issues, they find themselves in a discouraging situation. Yet, for those of us who are not weekly visitors to the above type establishments, it actually becomes a cause to adapt at home in order to find alternatives.
There are many options available based on what you milk intolerant issues are, as some can enjoy the “Lactose Free” items, where others, as in our family, find the need to refrain from the milk (mostly the casein within the milk). We have found that our alternate choice is that of enjoying the So Delicious frozen desserts. They provide a variety of flavors to meet the many desires of the individuals who have always enjoyed milk based ice creams.
A very simple dessert during this season of blueberries:
- 1/2 c of So Delicious Vanilla frozen dessert
- Enough blueberries to top your treat to your liking.
Simple, nutritious, satisfying and delicious! And, those little blueberries are packed with healthy antioxidants!!
Please keep in mind, a serving size is a 1/2 cup providing you with a 130 calories of deliciousness. Sometimes people forget the calorie count when they discover a substitute that works well for them, and then find themselves over indulging. So, keep to your serving size for two reasons: 1. maintain a healthy weight, and 2. it is costlier than regular ice cream products: ($4.29) for a quart (8 servings) vs. regular ice cream providing 1.75 quarts (14 servings)
What I love most about this desert is that it only takes a matter of 1-2 minutes to prepare!!
