It is rare that I purchase bread products as I tend not to enjoy filling up on the carbs. Plus, it is difficult to find gluten and milk free bread products that do not have the flavor of sawdust. Every now and then I will try a new product, although the cost can sometimes prohibit the ability to add it to my cart.
Yesterday, while visiting my father’n law who lives an hour away, I stopped in at Trader Joe’s and picked up some Udi’s Plain Bagels. The price was better than I have seen it elsewhere, resulting in each full bagel costing me $1.25, or 63 cents for each half bagel. Remember, I am not a huge carb person.
This morning was the taste test, with both my daughter and I sharing a half bagel each. After toasting each of our halves, we both selected to add peanut butter for the protein energy we were craving. We were both pleased with the taste, how it tasted and that it did NOT crumble to pieces as many gluten free products tend to do.
It is nice to finally find a bagel substitute that has flavor and satisfying!!
NOTE: The Udi’s Gluten Free Plain Bagels is Wheat, Dairy, Soy and Nut free. It does have eggs though, so if you have an egg allergy, this product is not for you.
The peanut butter I use is the Skippy Natural Peanut Butter with Honey. No preservatives!! Made with roasted peanuts, palm oil, peanut oil, salt, sugar and honey.
